Two Organizations Working Toward a Shared Purpose
The Gilletts Lake Community Club (GLCC) and the Gilletts Lake Preservation Society (GLPS) are separate nonprofit organizations with different legal structures and responsibilities. Together, they share a commitment to strengthening the Gilletts Lake community, improving local gathering spaces, and supporting projects that benefit current residents and future generations.
The Role of the Gilletts Lake Community Club
GLCC is a 501(c)(4) community organization focused on bringing neighbors together and supporting the needs of the Gilletts Lake area. Its work includes:
- Hosting community events and member activities
- Maintaining and improving the GLCC clubhouse
- Organizing volunteers and neighborhood projects
- Providing a gathering place for residents and families
- Advocating for issues that affect Gilletts Lake and the surrounding community
The Role of the Gilletts Lake Preservation Society
GLPS is a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Through fundraising, charitable gifts, and community support, GLPS helps fund eligible projects that advance its nonprofit mission. Its work may include:
- Hosting and supporting fundraising events
- Accepting charitable donations
- Saving event proceeds for future community projects
- Providing grants or donations for approved preservation and improvement projects
- Supporting projects that protect, preserve, and enhance the Gilletts Lake community
Where The Train Station Fits
The Train Station (located at 8739 E. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, MI) is privately owned by Reid and Terry Stewart and serves as the home of the Gilletts Lake Preservation Society. Community events and fundraisers are held at The Train Station throughout the year. After event-related expenses are paid, the remaining proceeds are retained by GLPS and reserved for future charitable use.
As funds accumulate, GLPS may provide grants or donations to support qualifying GLCC building renovations and other approved community improvement projects that are consistent with the GLPS charitable mission.
How the Partnership Benefits the Community
This partnership allows a night of fun at The Train Station to ripple outward into lasting improvements around Gilletts Lake. Community support can help make possible:
- Clubhouse repairs and renovations
- Safer, more accessible community spaces
- Kitchen, restroom, and gathering-area improvements
- Preservation and beautification projects
- More opportunities for neighbors to gather, volunteer, and connect
